We are thrilled to announce that Fluence has acquired Nispera AG, a Zurich-based company that delivers innovative 1st-generation AI software solutions for wind, solar, and hydro renewable energy assets globally. The acquisition directly supports and aligns with Fluence’s ongoing growth strategy, enabling us to continue synergizing core competencies, increase our market share while supporting our new and existing customers.

A press release about this acquisition was published earlier this week, and we wanted to take this opportunity to provide additional insight on this invaluable partnership, its impact on our growth strategy and the benefits to our customers.

Optimizing Renewables with AI and Machine Learning

The success of this acquisition is a direct result of our focus on advancing the Fluence IQ Digital Platform while adhering to our three main principles:

  1. Investing in the right and most advanced AI machine learning capabilities for future predictions and future decision makings.
  2. Adopting a technology-agnostic approach to ensure that our platform is applicable to any form of asset class.
  3. Focus on portfolio optimization, by managing the financial and physical synergies between different asset processes.

It is with this in mind, that a solid relationship was forged, resulting in enhanced market intelligence capabilities. The fast-growing market for renewables and energy storage, including a diverse asset base and equipment mix, results in market and technology complexities that can only be managed with advanced digital technologies. Fluence will benefit from Nispera’s innovative usage of AI and machine learning, which will significantly address these challenges and add to the portfolio of applications developed by our Digital Team. This acquisition continues to support Fluence’s growth of renewables and energy storage while increasing and enhancing services to our customers by providing new functionality and products. The combined expertise of two of the largest players in the industry will offer a comprehensive suite of digital applications via our IQ Platform aimed at optimizing both the development and management of power generation and energy storage projects and portfolios.

Let us imagine a world where you are notified of an outage on your solar facility in the next 24 hours, giving our customers ample time to manage and balance their positions, minimize destruction and unwanted financial losses. Nispera’s highly sophisticated forecasting application is truly what sets the company apart from other competitors and made it the perfect partner in this new phase of digital growth for Fluence. It will enable us to deliver increased value to customers through our ecosystem of products, services and applications that support the clean energy transition.

New call-to-action

In addition to collecting and analyzing data, Nispera has developed a SaaS scannable platform that can be integrated in different renewable asset classes, various geographies, and accurately monitor expected energy production, providing customers with visibility over the performance of their assets. This core functional strategy allows customers to remain fully involved and engaged in the performance reporting, so that they can understand the financial implications of under delivery or over delivery.

Think Globally, Optimize Locally

Nispera’s advanced utility-scale asset performance management (APM) application currently has 8 GW of assets under management across 450 projects in more than 25 countries. Storage will play a fundamental role in enabling a 100% renewable-based energy future, becoming part of Fluence gives us the opportunity to help shape the future on the digital side with our APM offering.

To date our digital applications have been extremely fine-tuned to address the intricacies and complexities of electricity markets, which is precisely what our customers want. The main competitive advantage of Nispera is one scalable product that can be applied to many asset classes in markets of Africa, Europe, Oceania, and Americas. With wind and solar assets under management globally, we are effectively positioned to enhance our global scale delivery and geographic presence, in primary and emerging markets. Nispera’s application will increase our scalability, by creating opportunities in markets we didn't have digital offering in, such as Africa or Europe, and furthermore create cross-selling opportunities between a host of visual applications, our potential partners services and business as well. Ultimately, it's an incredible tool to support our future growth, scalability, and market expansion.

A More Sustainable Future

We are equally thrilled about joining forces and the significant benefits our customers will experience as a result of this latest procurement. Nispera’s investment in forward thinking AI machine learning applications, technology asset agnosticism, and portfolio optimization’s principles are set to extend our existing digital capabilities. Not only by providing new functionality and products to customers through the Fluence IQ Digital Platform, but also by supporting the broader Fluence ecosystem we’re building with energy storage products and services and applications for renewables and storage.

Nispera’s performance monitoring, predictive analytics, and future forecasting bundled package is the perfect complement to the AI-enabled Fluence IQ Bidding Application, providing our customers with additional digital options and an unmatched competitive advantage to increase revenue capture.

On a final note, it should be mentioned that Fluence and Nispera’s shared cultural engagement, core values, mission, and passion, will allow our teams to organically merge our skill sets and effectively position us to create disruption in the energy space to create a more sustainable future.
